Essential Formulas Incorporated was founded when Michael Schoor, now Chairman and CEO, discovered Dr. Ohhira's Probiotic formula while traveling through Malaysia in 1997. During a stop in Kuala Lumpur, Michael experienced serious digestive discomfort after eating some regional cuisine. He consulted a local doctor who recommended a probiotic product from Japan, known as OM-X (Ohhira's Mountain Extract). These capsules provided quick relief and worked more effectively than any remedy Schoor had taken in the past, and with no negative side effects. He was so impressed that he was compelled to learn more about OM-X and the formulator of the capsules, Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira, one of Japan's leading microbiologists.
